WELLINGTON, March 21. “You are liable under the regulations to a penalty of up to a £IOO fine, or 12 months’ imprisonment, but as it is the first case of the kind 1 intend to inflict ;• fine, but not a .light fine, because I. consider it a serious offence.” said Mr J. L. Stout. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, when Edward Herbert Headfield, single, aged 30, a bootmaker, was charged with failing to enrol for national service. Headfield pleaded guilty.
