HOCKEY UMPIRES.
The annual report of the Manawatu Hockey Umpires’ Association records that the association, though facing a reduction in active members and also financial assistance, was able to supply umpires for ail competition matches and representative matches. In theory examinations Messrs B. Palenski. J. McDonald and L. Rendlo wore successful candidates. - In practical examinations Mr R. Hoare gained his New Zealand A grade badge and Mr D. Hoare a B grade pass, while Mr F. MeLaehlan was re-examined in A grade. At the close' of the season the association lost one of its most valuable members, Mr AV’. 11. AVilson. His departure will make a big gap in the ranks, and the president trusts that every member will give of his best for the coming season in an attempt to make up for the loss of so valuable a member. School hockey was in full swing during the season, Mr 11. Byers conducting and umpiring the competition matches. Congratulations arc extended to the Hokowhilu School on winning the competition.
