Rev. W. Elliott, M,A., of AVhangarei, is to receive a call from the congregation of St. James’s Presbyterian Church. Newtown.
Mr J. H. Kelly, Canadian High Commissioner in Dublin, died on Tuesday. He was born at St. Godfrey, Quebec, in 1879 and. -was of Irish descent.
Rev. J. E. Lopdell tendered his resignation from the charge of StStephen’s, Lower Hutt, at a meeting of the Wellington Presbytery on Tuesday night. His retirement from active work in the ministry will take place at the end of March.
Mr W. Thomas, of Timaru, formerly headmaster of the Timaru Boys’ High School, hag been chosen as the District Governor of Rotary. Mr Thomas has previously occupied this position. He was' District Governor in 1936-37, in which year he attended the annual convention of the Rotary International held in Atlantic City, United States of America.
Mr D. Forsyth, president of the New Zealand Educational Institute, was an overnight visitor to Palmerston North. Mr Forsyth, who. is principal of the Dunedin North Interme-' diate School, is engaged on the last section of a tour of North Island branches of the institute, and is accompanied by the general secretary (Mr G. R. Ashbridge). At the annual meeting of the Wellington District Law Society the following officers were elected: —President, Mr D. G. B. Morison; vice-presi-dent, Mr A. B. Buxton; treasurer, Mr T. P. Cleary; council, Messrs J. It. E. Bennett, H. R. Biss, S. J. Castle, P. B. Cooke, K.C., A. M. Cousins, E. P. Hay D. Perry, AV. P. Shorland, J. Graliam (Feilding), R. McKenzie (AVairarapa), J. AV. News has boon received by Mrs Griffith, of Otahuhu, that her son-in-law, Chief Petty-Officer Harry Guy, who has been serving on lI.M. submarine Triad, is reported missing. Chief Petty-Officer Guy was well-known in Auckland, having served several years as second engineer in li.M.S. Leith, when that vessel was on the New Zealand Station. He married Miss Evelyn Griffith,, of Otahuhu, in September, 1935, and left for England ten months later. His wife is at present with his parents, in Darlington, England. The submarine Triad, on which Chief PettyOfficer Guy was serving, has been reported by the Admiralty as overdue and is considered lost.
