HOSPITAL OUTPATIENTS.
PALMERSTON NORTH DISTRICT. DISCUSSION BY BOARD. The Palmerston North Hospital Board is to discuss the free treatment of outpatients, tinder the recent extension of the State social security programme, at its next meeting, on. Monday. . Mr J. A. Nash, the board's chairman, said to-day that at the outpatient department at the Hospital a small charge had been made per visit and every month the board had written off a fairly large sum in respect of those patients who were unable to pay. In the new scheme, incidentally, dental treatment, the supply of drugs and medicines. X-ray services and Laboratory services were not included. The present accommodation for outpatient treatment at the Hospital was totally inadequate, added Mr Nash, and in the new' building proposals provision had also been made for'such treatment. Mr Nash said that he was not in a position to discuss the matter because the Government proposals from the Health Department were now in' hand and the board would bs giving full consideration to these at its next meeting.
