Miss B. Christie, of Fordell, is at present in Palmerston North and will later visit Wellington.
Mesdames H. Oldham and J. 0. Boniface, who are indisposed, were accorded a vote of sympathy by fellow members of the Cuba Street Ladies' Guild yesterday. Mrs S. Budden was welcomed back after a period of illness by members of the Guild. The Girls' Music Club opened its new season last evening in St. Andrew's schoolroom, when Miss Evelyn Bawlins presided. The programme was: Piano, Brahms's Ballade, • Miss L. Buick; vocal, "The Silver Ring, Miss J. Blythe; piano, Last Movement Appasionata Sonata, Miss B. Bartlett; violin, "Romance," Miss J. Findlay; vocal, "Here in the Quiet Hills," Miss D. Junker (Pahiatua); piano, First Movement Haydn Sonata in E Flat, Miss P. Revere; violin, "Czardas," Mrs P. Chittenden; vocal, *"Charming Chloe" and "Golden Slumbers," Miss G. Laurenson; piano. Brahms's Rhapsody No. 2, Miss M. Anderson. The accompaniments were played by Mrs I. K. Rickard, Misses L. Buick and C. Bartlett.

Mrs H. Akers and Mrs I. Robertson, of Opiki, are visiting Auckland.
The friends of Mr and Mrs Vernon Thompson, of Campbell Street, will be pleased to learn that their daughter Judith, who has had to undergo an urgent operation for appendicitis, is progressing favourably. A reception arranged by the Manawatu branch of the British Music Society, the Manawatu branch of the Music Teachers' Association • and the Girls' Music Club was hold at the Rosco tearooms, yesterday afternoon, in honour of Mr and Mrs Oscar Natzke (the latter being formerly Miss Winifred Clements, a well-known Auckland singer), Messrs Kenneth Neate and Henri Penn. The hostesses were Miss Evelyn Rawlins and Mrs P. McMahon, and the hosts Messrs J. Holmes Runnicles and H. Pierard. The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford) was present and apologies for absence were received from the Mayor and Dr. P. H.,McDowall (president of the Manawatu branch of the British Music Society). Mr Runnicles welcomed the visitors and said the city was fortunate in having as guests such world-famous, artists in vocal and instrumental music. A spray of pink roses and carnations was presented to Mrs Natzke. Mr D. D. O'Connor (manager of the concert party) returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. Members of the Cuba Street Methodist Ladies' Guild paid a visit to Mr and Mrs A. J. Shailer, of Albert Street, yesterday, instead of holding their usual monthly meeting in the Sunday schoolroom. Tea was enjoyed in a shady spot on the verandah and afterwards the members enjoyed walking in the gardens where beautiful dahlias provided a wealth of colour. Mrs A. E. Fisher presided and the dovotions were led by Mrs T. K. Hodder. Correspondence was received from the Women's \Var Seivice Auxiliary, and guild delegates were instructed to attend a meeting and promise the co-operation of members. A letter from the National Council of Women was received and it was decided to call a special meeting to study this in detail. A visit to the Awapuni Home was planned and a programme is to be arranged by the president and secretary. Members were thanked for services rendered at the church garden party and at , the patriotic shop. A donation from Mrs P. J. Miller towards the refugee sewing fund was received. A vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs "Shailer and the hostesses (Mesdames J. Candy, R. J. Mclver, M. Boyes, senr., J. Alsop, and A. H. Fisher, senr.) was conveyed by Mrs Meller.
