AWAHURI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) AWAHURI. March 10.
The Awahuri Hall was tilled to capacity at a gathering held in honour of Gunners K. Cribb, R. J. Bracken and T. H. York. Owing to unforeseen circumstances, Private D. J. Lay was unable to be present. The time was spent in modern and oldtime dancing to music supplied by Messrs L. Smith and J. Lankshear. Items were rendered by Miss Whittaker, and local and Te Arakura Maori ladies, Mr S. Martin Land Miss D. Goodman. Mr W.-MacCal!um (chairman of the patriotic entertainment'committe), on behalf of friends and residents of the district, presented Gunners Cribb and Bracken with wristlet watches and Gunner York with a companion set, wishing them the best of luck and a safe and speedy return. Mr W. Ward briefly 6pokc on behalf of the'native race, and Mrs E. O. Bond on behalf of the sewing guild, presented each guest with a parcel of comforts. Musical honours, cheers, and the singing of "There Will Always be an England," and stirring hakas from native friends, concluded the. presentation ■ ceremony. Posies were mado and presented by Mesdames MacCallum and Henderson to Mrs J .Cribb and Mrs J.- Oke and one was forwarded to Mrs T. H; York.
