(From Our Own Correspondent.) A PIT I, Jan.- 8. The ; monthly -meeting of-, (he /Women's 'lnstitute was held on Tuesday at' the delightful Mr and Airs’ N., C. Jenson. Mrs C. AI. Stanley presided. Apologies for absence were received from, Alesdames D. McNicol and W. Hogan (secretary and treasurer respectively) and Mrs W. Duncan was acting-secretary for the meeting. Greetings for the News Yefcr /wero extended by the president, and two new members—Misses Cecile Payton and Joyce White—were welcomed. A letter? was received from Airs R. IT. Guthrie 'accepting the invitation to attend the annual meeting in March. - Details of the next quota of soldiers’ parcels were /fully discussed and these are to be ready by January 20 for dispatch to Fcilding. . Opportunity. was taken to bid farewell to Airs Hodson and Aliss. Audrey Hodson, who have been members of the institute since, they ' first came to Apiti some three years ago. Regret was expressed at their pending departure and wishes extended to them in their now homo in Auckland. Dainty posies were presented which were the artistic work of Airs F. Alunro and Aliss Joyce White respectively. Mrs%jG. • B. Gregory, of Alarton, will be the', speaker at the next meeting and it w-as decided to have a competition for gladioli—(l) best spike, (2) three spikes. Other competitions will be cheese cakes (puff pastry), best carrot, and best onion. A most interesting letter was read from a soldier in Egypt who had received one of tho Apiti Women’s Institute parcels. It was also decided to have a market stall next month, when members can bring their cakes or aprons for sale for the, federation individual effort. Other goods also can bo brought for sale under the usual market stall conditions. Although the 'attendance was small members present enjoyed wandering through the gardens on such, a beautiful afternoon. The hostesses were Alesdames F. Alunro and M. Jacob. The meeting closed with good wislibs tb Airs and Miss Hodson, and thanks ito Air and Airs Jensen for their hospitality. Airs AI. Blundell, of. Wellington, is the guest of her sister. Mrs W. Duncan. Airs V. Eliot, of Birkenhead, Auckland, is visiting her parents, Air and Airs Cowan, senr.
