TARANTO-BOOM-DE-AY!
By Graham Moffat. (Author"of “Bunty Pulls the Strings," etc.) The powerful fleet of Italy Is famous for its speed, they say; Oft challenged, ’twould decline to stay, But gloried in its get-away. Taranto-boom-de-ay 1 Taranto-boom-de-ay I Taranto-boom-de-ay I Taranto-boom-de-ay I “We’ve saved our ships” they cried, “Hooray 1” Taranto has a sheltered bay In which our fleet can hide away, Perhaps to fight some other day. Taranto-boom-de-ay; etc. But such is not the British way— Our Navy had its word to 6ay:_ . "If to our challenge you say ‘Nay” We’ll find you in Taranto Bay!” Taranto-boom-de-ay ; etc. So where their ships ingloriously Hid snugly in Taranto Bay. Winged power in aerial array Swooped down and sank them where they lay. Taranto-boom-de-ay; etc. Thus still in glorious Nelson’s Svay Our navies ever win the day. Taranto’s, like Trafalgar’s Bay, Will live in British history. Taranto-boom-de-ay ; etc. (Sung to the tuno of “Ta-ra-.ra Boom-De-Ay” this parody is popular among the armed forces in South Africa.)
