DANCE RECITAL.
A function that is always eagerly anticipated is the recital presented by pupils of the Jean Scott School of Dancing which will take place in the Opera House on Saturday next. In a lengthy programme pleasantly varied every branch of the dancer’s art will be demonstrated both in ensemble and solo work. A feature of the programme will bo as usual the colouriul and artistic frocking, ng effort having been spared in this connection. The “Sylvia Ballet,” which opens the programme, will present the seniors in classical white ballet frocks, and in striking contrast the soloist, Miss Isa McKenzie, will appear in black with touches of silver. A contrasting pizzicato movement serves to present Gloria Young in white ballet frock and sixteen juniors in short ballet frocks for graceful posturing. The grand finale will be the “Ballet Russe” a colourful and vigorous number, tho senior girls and their partners in white with touches of red. Joy Medway, tho soloist, wears a smart Russian suit of white with fur trimming and scarlet Russian boots, tho juniors wearing scarlet skirts and white blouses to provide a really spectacular scene. In “In Flirtation” G. Young and O. Olsen appear as soloists,' the former in apricot ballet frock and the latter .in green, the rival suitors in contrasting suits ’ Another popular number should be the “Palais Stroll” by Miss Zoe Bailey in red georgette pyjama suit. National dancing has a big share in the programme, and tap work, with many clever juveniles and songs with dance choruses are an innovation. Altogether about 100 children will be associated.
