DECISION REVERSED.

NO CHRISTMAS DAY PICTURES. When tho works committee brought a recommendation before the C ity Council at the monthly meeting, last evening, that permission be granted to screen pictures on Christmas Day, the recommendation was reversed. The recommendation was that permission be granted under the same conditions as last year. The New Zealand Theatrical Industrial Union of Workers wrote requesting the council to reirain from granting permission to screen pictures on Christmas Day. Twenty-one employees of Palmerston North picture theatres wrote a similar letter, and the committee recommended that these letters be received Cr W G Black moved an amendment. that permission he not granted. This was seconded by Cr W. B. Tennent (who was unable to be present at the works committee meeting) and carried on the casting vote of the Mayor. The voting was as follows:For the amendment: The Mayor, Crs Black, Tennent, Hodgens and Grigor. Against the amendment: Crs Heatley, Townshend, Smillie, Tremaine and Mouldey.
