LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.
MANAWATU BRANCH. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Manawatu branch of the Royal Life-Saving Society records a iurther gratitying number of awards, the total gained during the year being 515. The Wig-rani Shield, awarded to the branch gaining the greatest percentage of increase or showing the lowest percentage of decrease in lifesaving awards points in one year over the average of the previous two years, ' was again won by Manawatu. Manawatu gained no fewer than 515 awards. The Barnlord Shield, awarded by tile council of the society to the club, college or school gaining the greatest number of awards irrespective of its roll number or membership, was won last year by College Street School. Its 278 awards were all gained by pupils instructed by Mr L. R. Rickard and to him, as well as to the school, heartiest congratulations were offered by the council. The performance of the school was indeed meritorious. Unabated interest was still a feature of the schools in the territory and it was hoped this year even further to exploit the possibilities of fostering life-saving clauses in the outlying districts. In conclusion, the report thanked donors and all who had assisted the society in its work.
