Miss May Murray, of Chaytor Street, is spending a week in Wellington. Miss K. N. . Woodhouse, of College Street, is staying at Pukerua Bay. Mrs A. G. A. Baigent, of McGiffert Street, is visiting AVellington. Miss M. Tattersfield,- of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs Charles Shann, of Eitzroy Street. In the saddle horse events at the Hawke's Bay Show Miss Freda White, of Awapuiii, figured with much success, gaining five first prizes and one second. Staff Nurse King, of Whetukura, was farewellod this week at a gathering arranged by the women's executive of the Dannevirke Patriotic Society. She is to take up duty with the Army Nursing Service Overseas. Mrs C. V. Ciochetto, wife of Lieutenant Cioclietto, M.C., M.M., who has been appointed area commander of the Home Guard for the Palmerston North district, is at present visiting her sister, Mrs N. Stouppe, of Christchurch. Visitors welcomed at, the monthly meeting of the Manawatu Women's Club yesterday were Mesdames Harley Palmer (formerly of Blackpool. England), H. Sinclair (Piimmerton), M. Paton, H. P. Graham, H. Howes, W. E. Winks, W. H. Boon, .and A. 11. MeKegg (Palmerston North). To hold a diploma in sheep farming, won after a two years' course at sey College, and then to be manager of an 800-aere sheep farm, are two claims to distinction held by Miss Kathleen Scott;-daughter of Mr and Mrs George Scott, Bimmerburn, Otago. Miss Scott, who is in her early twenties, is at present manager of a sheep farm three miles outside of Palmerston. She is in sole charge and there are jio men on the place.
