PATRIOTIC FUND.
,' COLLECTION BY CHILDREN. :. PERMISSION NECESSARY. A decision to make it clear that prior approval must be obtained to any collections made for patriotic funds was made at a meeting of Zone D (Palmerston North) of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council on Thursday, at which there were present the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) in the chair, Messrs K. A.« Henderson, C. V. Day, Major V. J. Dick, Messrs G. A. Eliott and S. G. Nor they.
"Unless they are under proper control there will be some trouble," said the chairman, when the question of granting children permission to collect tor patriotic purposes was discussed. Mr Henderson said that it must be made plain that approval must be obtained before collections were made, and on his suggestion the motion covering the decision was carried. The chairman said that, unfortunately, certain people in the community were prepared to take advantage of this sort of thing. Collections must be made by children of a fair age, who would know what they were doing, and they must be supplied with proper collectors' authorities.

This was a splendid contribution, the letter said. The Palmerston North Girls' Music Club advised that it proposed to devote the proceeds of its annual concert towards patriotic funds. Mrs D. McGregor asked that her children be given permission to conduct a Paddy's market in aid of an Air Force fund; they had already collected 30s and hoped to raise more. The amount of contributions since the last meeting was reported to be £lß3l 16s 2d.
