HOME GUARD.

MANAWATU COUNTY AREA. Tlio initial steps toward tho setting up of a Home Guard organisation covering the Alanawatu County and Foxton areas were taken by the Manawatu County Council yesterday. An outline of the organisation was forwarded to the council’s meeting by the Director of National Service (Air J. S. Hunter). The council discussed the matter generally and Air H. V. Bond, the county engineer, who was one of the county representatives who met Air It. Sine], organiser of the Home Guard, in Palmerston North recently, gave a precis of the director’s outline, with comments on t'fic meeting. The council decided to set up a Home Guard committee, with the proviso tliat Foxton be represented thereon, the view being held that Foxton is an essential part of a home defence area which, would embrace the coastal districts. Crs AV. !E. Barber (chairman) and R. A. Wilson are to represent the' County Council, Alt- Bond the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Air A. K. Drew tile Emergency Precautions Committee. Appointments of representatives of the Farmers’ Union, the Foxton Borough Council and t'he trades union organisation are to be sought.
