Practices for the Palmerston North Centennial Choral Union’s forthcoming production of Handel’s “Messiah” commence in the Congregational Church schoolroom at 7.30 p.m. on Monday next. With the enthusiasm which has marked the early arrangements for this production it is certain that the “Messiah” will be of a high standard and a fitting termination to the City’s Centennial celebration. Petrol rationing operated from Tuesday in Australia. There were markedly fewer cars on the roads. Private car owners, preferring to conserve supplies for week-end toms, reverted to the trains, trams and ferry-boats to take them to business.
