OVERSEAS INVESTMENTS.
MR SEMPLE'S STATEMENT,
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. Oct. 1. A rumour which, he said, was persistent, that he was adding to his overseas assets by building a £SO 000 block of flats in Sydney was referred to by Hon. R. Semple to-niglit. Mr Semple emphatically repudiated the allegation. “Beyond my liQme in Wellington,” said Mr Semple, “I haven’t a cent invested anywhere in the world. I do not own sufficient wood in Australia to build ’ a mousetrap. If you can find a philanthropist who will pay off the mortgage on my house, lead me to him!”
Direct questions regarding his overseas investments had been addressed to 'him so often, said the Minister, that he thought it advisable to make a public declaration as to the state of his purse.
