COMPLIMENTARY BALL

TERRITORIALS HONOURED. Feilding is particularly fortunate in having a very active Territorial Association and the organisation is making every effort to extend hospitality to members of the Territorial Company, of which the town is justly proud. In many ways tho association is catering for the welfare of its soldiers, and last evening the second complimentary ball arranged under the auspices of the association was held in tiie Drill Hall. The function was an outstanding success and the hall was crowded. Tho dance attracted visitors from far afield, and a perfect floor, splendid- music and supper ensured success and enjoyment lor the dancers. Tho members of tho company wero. in uniform, and the decorations of 'hi patriotic nature including the coat-of-arms, the Union Jack, Hags and streamers. The coat-of-arms appeared on a box lantern and also on the walls, while the stage was formed into a lounge with large bowls of spring flowers and foliage adding to tho colourful scene.

The Mayor (Mr T. L. Seddon), president of tho Territorial Association, presided and after reading a number of apologies for absence, extended a welcome to the guests and the representatives of district units. He stated that the function had been arranged as a formal send-off, apd he thanked the ladies’ committee, under the direction of Mrs W. Coulson Fowler the. splendid work done in connection with the deconftions and supper arrangements. It was gratifying to the association to see so many present, and he was pleased to weleomo Major Bruce McLeod, M.C., president of the R.S.A. Major McLeod, on behalf of. the regiment, acknowledged the remarks of the chairman and made special reference to the work of the ladies’ committee in connection with the week-end military training at the racecourse. He said that the men were very appreciative of the generous manner in which the ladies had arranged luncheon and afternoon tea, and he mentioned that Feilding was the only place in the whole regimental area where such hospitality was extended. The ladies’ committee responsible for the organisation of the function comprised:—Mesdames W. Coulson, Fowler, R. 1C Seddon, C. H. Tate, B. McLeod, R. H. Buchanan, A. C. Buist, G. Mi Moffitt, C. V. Jewell, A. B. Baker F. P. Fawcett, R. M. Watson, C. M. Sargisson, J. Humphreys, J. Adams, J. Lugg, M. Andrews, C. V. Broad, I-I. Smithers, J. H. Mason, G. J. Fitzpatrick, T. Collins, F. H. Petrie, W. H. McLean, R. W. Rentoul and H. S. Tate.
