Discount and short loan rates on the London market are Day to day loans, § per cent; fine trade bills (3mos.), 2' s to 3: bank bills (3nios.), 1 1-16; bank bills (6 mos.), 1£; treasury bills (2mos.), 1; treasury bills (3inos.), 1. Call money at New York is'unchanged at 1 per cent. First Woman Herd Tester. In connection with the paragraph in the farming news of the “Munawatu Standard’’ yesterday, dealing with the appointment of three women, the first to be employed as testers in the Dominion, it is claimed that the first woman tester was Miss .T. M. Parker, of Kelvin Grove. She started with the Wellington-Hawko’s B"y Herd Improvement Association on July 24, and four days later received a letter from the secretary of the Women’s Herd Testing Reserve congratulating her on being the first woman in New Zealand to start this work.
