HOCKEY
MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Hockey Association on AVednesday, Mr L. Martin presided. Mr J. JJ. McDonald reported on the High School team's performance at the New Zealand secondary school tournament held in Auckland. Mr McDonald was asked to convey the association's congratulations to the team on its splendid performance. Congratulations are also to he extended to .13. V. Kyle, J. Mummery and It. Adcock, of the High School team, on selected to play in the New Zealand secondary schools representative side. It was resolved to suggest to the New Zealand Hockey Association that these three players be provided with blazers and pocket badges. The chairman reported on the Manawatu-Wellington match, played at Wellington. A letter of thanks for the hospitality extended to the Manawatu team during its stay in Wellington, and also a letter of congratulation on its victory over the Auckland eleven, are to be sent to the Wellington team. The Feilding Association is to be thanked for the use of a ground for 1 the women’s 'hockey. The Wanganui team is to be notified, in connection with its request for a return match with Manawatu to be played at Wanganui, that the Manawatu team will be unable to visit Wanganui this season owing to its programme being full.
It was decided that unfinancial clubs he not permitted to participate in any further competitions this season and that unfinancial players be prevented from playing representative hockey. A recommendation to next year’s executive was that all clubs which are unfinancial at the end of the first round of the Club competitions be barred from further participation in club competitions. Sir McDonald was appointed manager of the Manawatu Winter Shield team. The following are the fixtures for Saturday:—Manawatu Colts v. Taranaki Colts (players under 21 years of age), for the Winter Shield, at llokowhitu Park, 1.40 p.m. Married Men’s team v. Single Men’s team, No. 2 Ground, llokowhitu, 3 p.m. Junior division (final of known handicap) : Phoenix v. Broadway, No. 2 ground, llokowhitu, 1.40 p.m. (Messrs Byers and Palenski). Women’s division: Broadway v. United at Takaro Park. 1.40 p.m.; High School Old Girls v. Bedding, Takaro Park, 3 p.m. (Messrs Grigg gnd Turner). Broadway juniors.—Mason, Ilickton, G.
