MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Messrs J. T. Boswortli and W. D. Ashworth, J.P.’s, presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Allen Roy Easton (of Foxton), Hilla Winiata (of Manakau) and Wi Hines (of Motuiti), who was represented by Mr G. Tremaine, were jointly charged with breaking and entering "the shop of Ernest Titcombe in Main Street, Foxton, on August 31 and stealing goods valued at 13s lOd. Detective G Long said that the three accused left a party in the early hours of Saturday morning, tore the wire'gauze from the front of a butcher’s shot), opened tile lock and took a quantity of small goods. Evidence was given by E. Titcombe and Constable J. Forsyth put in a statement by Winiata in which lie admitted having taken part in the incident, the original suggestion to enter the shop having been made by Easton. Statements as to their having taken part were put in also from the other accused. None of the articles had been recovered. Easton and Winiata entered pleas of guilty and Hines pleaded not guilty. Mr Tremaine said Hines_ -would plead guilty to taking two tins of herrings, but he pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering. It was pointed out by the Bench that Hmes -was a party to the offence of breaking and entering and it was stated that he was therefore equally blameworthy with the person who actually broke and entered the shop. Easton and Winiata were ordered to come up for sentence at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Palmerston North and Hines was committed for trial at the same sitting. Bail was allowed in each case at £2O and one surety of £2O.
