PETROL LICENSES.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —When we read that Australia is to have petrol rations of 4000 miles yearly for private cars and that restriction does not commence till October/ one Avonders if the excuse given by the Finance Minister is genuine. Australia is just as important to the Empire as New Zealand, yet Ave seem to be the Cinderella of the Empire family. If any colony has to go Avithout, New Zealand seems to be the first. The “Minister for Petrol Starvation” in our fair country recently rerused a business man a license for even four gallons monthly, yet Ave read of certain other persons with 90-gallon licenses allegedly misusing their ration. There is little doubt that the Government’s petrol policy is being governed by the amount of objection it raises. A.A. members and motor organisations are too apathetic compared Avith their Australian brothers, and dictator-minded officials are taking silence for consent. — I am, etc., SQUARE DEAL.
