PROFITS FROM WOOL.
COMPANIES’ SHARE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. The profits made by freezing companies out of the purchase of slipe wool before the appraisal price was fixed were referred to at tlie annual meeting of the Meat Producers’ Board. Mr A. McDonald (Wairarapa) said freezing companies bought the wool of about 4,000,000 lambs before tlie appraisal price was made known, and quite rightly paid out on a conservative basis of 14jd per pound. When, the 1 price was disclosed it became apparent that the companies had made a profit of 6d per lb. on the wool and, therefore, had pocketed £IOO,OOO. The following motion was carried: “That this electoral committee urges the Meat Board to press the Government for information regarding the excess profits from slipe wool taken over by f reeling companies before the appraisal prices were arranged, and as to whether such surplus will ultimately be refunded to the producer ”
