FOXTON.
The coming-of-age of Miss Verna Sutton was marked by a party on Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Sutton, the latter wearing a frock of green cloquo and a tur fabric cape, welcomed the guests. Miss Sutton wore a cream silk embroidered net frock over shell pink satin, the shell pink embroidery matching a taffeta sash. _ Mrs Sutton carried a posy of freesias finished with green ribbon streamers, and Miss Sutton had a. posy of freesias and pink sweet peas, tied by matching pink ribbons. The posies were presented by Miss M. Easton. For dancing music was played by Mr L. Mattar and Mr John Staff. Miss Easton and Mr H. Dorn won prizes for the lucky Gay Gordons and Miss N. Anight and Mr G. Small for the statue waltz Mr G. F. Smith, who was M.C., extended the congratulations of friends to Miss Sutton. Mr Sutton and Miss Sutton thanked those present for many gilts received. The guests included Misses L. Hoicroft and P. Knight, of Palmerston North, and Miss T. Nockels, of Levin. The committee of the Foxton Women’s Institute decided that competitions for the September meeting would be for sausage rolls and hand-made slippers. Mrs Prouse. of Levin, will also give a demonstration of knitting from the fleece. At the tenth birthday party vocal solos were sung by Mrs L. J. Chittenden. The following arc the results of a Stabloford bogey competition played by the Herrington Golf Club: —Mrs R. Robinson and Miss A. Neylon, equal, 1, Mrs S. E. Crawford 2, Miss G. Neylon 3. The Foxton junior Rugby team beat United by 26 points to nil in a match at Otaki on Saturday afternoon. A good season both socially and financially is recorded in tho report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Foxton Croquet Club. Wednesday competitions throughout the year attracted tho usual keen interest three competitions being played. The results were: —Target, Mrs R. Bryant, 737 points: French, Mrs R. Bryant, 496 points; golf, Mrs A. V. Taylor, £8 points. In tho singles competition for the higher grade, Mrs G. Walls was the winner, with Mrs E. Bryant run-ner-up. The C players are congratulated on the progress they have made during tho Reason. Mrs C. Robinson won the C grade competition, with Mrs Taylor run-ner-up. Mrs G. Walls donated a trophy for the beginner making most progress and Mrs S. E. Cowley was the winner. Tho Horowhenua inter-club matches for the Sherwood Cup proved interesting, although Foxton did not retain tho trophy. The present holders of the Stuart Shields are Mcsdamo3 Walls and E. Bryant j the Nye Mallets, Mesdamee C. Robinson and Cowley; tho Hornblow Badges, Mesdames M. E. Perreau and G. Walls.
Mrs E. Francis and Miss Eileen Francis, of Ravensworth Place, have left to take up their residence in Palmerston North; Miss June Austin, an Otago University 6tudcnt, is spending tho vacation with her paronts, Mr and Mrs S. R. Austin, of Moutoa. Miss Joan Barron (Wellington) and Miss Shirley Barron (Bulls) are spending the vacation with their parents. Mr and Mrs D. R. Barron, Robinson Street.
