MEAGRE DAMAGE
RAIDS ON LONDON. FEW CASUALTIES. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 20, 1.20 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 25. The Ministry of Home Security has announced that very small damage and very few casualties resulted from last night’s raid on London. It would be wrong for anybody to. think the raid caused anything approaching devastation. Apart from the fire already announced, some damage was done to one of the city churches. GERMAN CLAIMS. A Berlin communique states: We destroyed 64 British planes yesterday; 20 of ours are missing. Our air force has successfully continued the destruction of important enemy military establishments. German units made a surprise attack on the British Isles, destroying buildings, hangars, the workshops on aerodromes at North Weald, Manston, Canterbury, and Ramsgate, also setting fire to harbour equipment at Portsmouth. We also attacked store buildings at Great Yarmouth and troop encampments in the vicinity of Dover. Several violent air, combats occurred in which our fighters reported their superiority. Numerous night attacks were carried out against Bristol Harbour. We caused fires and explosions at an oil tank in the centre of Thaineshaven, and seriously damaged'airerait industries at Derby, Birmingham, Kingston, and Rochester.
