~ a OBITUARY. The passing of Mr Joseph John n ' l . rl fY;’ at the age of 62 years, removes a highlyrespected pioneer of the Woodyllle di&tnc . Mr Burlace, a native of St. Reverne, Cornwall, arrived in New Zealand in the sailing clipper Fern Gien in 1875 with ow follow migrants after a voyage of £0 clays from Plymouth. He settled for 12 years in Nelson, where he was engaged in the nursery trade. Arriving at Palinerslqn Norte before the advent of the railway, he continued on to Woodville by coach and engaged in various pioneering works m the Woodville district lor several years before taking up a farm at Papatawa. Although Mr Burlace retired from active farming 16 y'ears ago, his great interest in gardening never waned. 'There are five surviving sons and two daughters—Messrs J. J. Burlace (Te Hunga), Frank (Woodville), 'vaster (Dannevirke), Percy (Wellington), anti William Burlace (Panatawa), and Mesdames A. Pinfold (Bunnythorpe) and Galloway (Dannevirke). There are also 42 grandchildren and 45 great-grandclu - dren. The interment took place at VY oodville Cemetery on Saturday, the service being conducted by Captain Jones, of tne Salvation Army
