FAIR AT FIRST. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. A disturbance is crossing the South Island. Pressure is high to the north and low to the south-east. The forecast is for moderate to strong north-westerly winds, turning to south-westerly to-night, but decreasing to-morrow. The weather will be fair at first, but becoming showery with a southerly change; temperatures cooler with some snow on the ranges; seas rather rough to rough. RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—3ft.
