PERSONAL.

The Bishop of Wellington (lit. Rev. H. Holland), who recently underwent an operation, is progressing slowly and will remain in hospital for some time yet. Commander A. B. Fanshawe, A.D.C., R.N., has been reappointed Second Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board in continuation, according to a notice in the Gazette. Recent staff changes at the Palmerston North Post Office include the transfer of Mr M. G. Ihvyer, of the telephone exchange staff, to Wellington. He has been stationed here since 1935. Mr J. A. Power, of the mailroom staff, has been transferred to Christchurch. General Sir Alexander Godley is now a platoon commander in the Home Guard, states a London message General Godley was Commander-m-Chief of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the last war. He was Commander-in-Chief of the British Army on the Rhine and later Governor of Gibraltar.

Mr E. Whitehead recently took up duty as mailroom supervisor at the Palmerston North Post Office. He joined the Post Office staff at Palmerston North in 1913 and was stationed here till February, 1938. He was then appointed supervisor of the postal branch at Invercargill, and has been transferred back here from that position.

Mr Ernest Jenner, the well-known Christchurch pianist, has arrived in Palmerston North and is accompanied by Mrs Jenner. They are the guests of Mrs Southey-Baker, Batt Street. Mr Jenner and Miss Southey-Baker are the artists presenting the programme for the third concert of the Palmerston, North branch of the British Music Society. Mr and Mrs J. C. Young, of North Street, have received a cablegram from their son, Mr R. Young, who is in the Royal Air Force, stating that he has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Young, whose friends in the city will be' pleased to learn of his success, is now undergoing training to become a pilot, his previous training being for that of all air gunner.
