EMPIRE’S BIG ORDERS. Received August 23, 11.50 a.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 22. British Empire purchases and the expanding South American trade increased the United States’s exports in the first ten months of the war 35 per cent.'above the same period of last year, despite the loss of important European markets. Foreign sales totalled 3273 million dollars from September to June, of which Empire countries bought 1235 million dollars’ worth, compared with 905 million dollars’ worth previously. Latin America bought 061 million dollars’ worth compared with 461 million previously. British orders for arms and munitions in July totalled 131.819 thousand dollars arid Canadian 4465 thousand, each being over half the value of similar shipments in the previous six months.
