An official Nairobi communique states: The South African Air_ Force carried out extensive raids on Tuesday on all the known aerodromes in Southern Abyssinia and Italian Somaliland, including Yavello, Neghelli, Mega, Afmadu, Jelib, Margherita, Kismayu and Mogadishu. Much valuable information was obtained and direct hits secured on buildings and aircraft. No enemy fighters were seen and there was Jittie ground opposition. The weather at Mogadishu was difficult, but the machines got through and all re-

turned safely. Among the targets was the wireless station at Mega. ITALIAN CLAIMS. Received August 22, 11.30 a.nt. ROME, Aug. 21. A communique states: “Li wliat was formerly British SomuliJai.il the local population are flocking round the Italian authorities to give oaths of allegiance. Native soldiers of the Camel Corps and bands of liilaros '(warriors) are bringing in weapons simultaneously with their enrolment in the native Italian army. Five British bombers were damaged by Italian air raids round Berbera. The British carried out numerous air raids on several localities in Ethiopia. One woman was killed and five persons wounded. The material damage was insignificant. Italian fighters brought down a Blenheim machine at Diredawa. Italian air formations attacked air bases at Malta, scoring successful hits. The enemy violently counter-attacked our planes and we probably shot down one of the enemy'machines.”
