HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Hockey Association, last evening, Mr L. Martin presided. It was decided to refer to the finance committee a request from the University Club for a further ground allowance.

Tho secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association wrote stating that the Manawatu Association’s letter with reference to controversial matters be* ing published in the New Zealand Association’s bulletin was to be considered.

An invitation from tho Feilding Association to send a representative team to Feilding to play a Feilding team was declined owing to the association’s programme being filled for the season. The Woodville Club wrote thanking the association for the able manner in which the Campbell Shield tournament was conducted, and for tho use of the grounds. The rector of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School (Mr J. Murray), in a letter, thanked the association on behalf of the school hockey team for the financial assistance rendered for the team’s trip to Auckland. The secretary of the Wanganui Hockey Association notified that an A team and probably a 13 team would travel to Palmerston North shortly. Mr L. Martin was appointed manager of the Manawatu team to travel to Wellington, Mr R. K. Beale manager of the two teams to play the Wanganui teams at Palmerston North, .and Mr W. H. Smith manager of the two teams to play the Napier teams at Palmerston North. As a curtain-raiser to the Winter Shield match to be played at the Showgrounds, it was decided to hold a Married v. PALMERSTON NORTH DO WELL. The Palmerston North Roys’ High School hockey team engaged in the secondary schools’ tournament at Auckland, have been meeting with great success. In their match against Hamilton yesterday morning they, scored a comparatively easy victory by 4 goals to nil. Palmerston North attacked early and Waters and Adcock both netted. Shortly afterwards N. Anderson scored two quick goals. For the remainder of the match Palmerston North held the territorial advantage. In the A section, Palmerston North and Auckland Grammar School are equal with 7 points each, being followed by Gisborne High School with 6. Provided Palmerston North' and Auckland Grammar School won their matches this morning they would meet in the final this afternoon. In the R section, Stratford Technical High School lead with 7 .points from Mt. Albert Grammar, wlio have 6 points.
