BENEFIT FROM GRANTS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Aug. 21. The annual statement of the accounts of the Otago University reveal* that Government grants have increased between the years 1937 and 1940 by £11,750, the major increases being arts and general by £4750 and medical by £4250. The treasurer comments that these increases have enabled an improvement in the salaries of the teaching staff, and the provision of additional staffing. The standard salary of professors of the arts and science faculty is now £IOOO. The salaries of full-time professors of the medical faculty raime from £I2OO to £2OOO.
