ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
THISTLE WIN CHAMPIONSHIP. At a meeting of the management committee of • the Manawatu Football Association, last evening, Mr W. Jacques presided. A' request from the Miramar Rangers Club_ (Wellington) for games .for both senior and junior teams to be played at Palmerston North at the end of this month was agreed to. Messrs R. Stewart and G. Geekie were appointed managers of the Manawatu senior and junior teams respectively, and Mr B. MeSheffrev was appointed referee. The winners of the 1940 season championships were declared as follow:—Senior, Thistle; junior, High School A; primary, Terrace End A. The draw for the knock-out competition for all grades to be played on September 7 is :—Senior: Thistle v. St. Andrew’s. Junior: High School A v. Technical: High' School B v. St. Andrew’s. Primary schools: Asbhurst v. Terrace End B; Terrace End A v. College Street. SCHOOL TOURNAMENT. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. Aug. 20. The North Island secondary schools annual Association football tournament opened in New Plymouth to-day. In the opening matches Wanganiu 3 beat Manawatu 0, Wellington 4 beat Taranaki 0. Wazid Ali scored the Wanganui goals. " ‘ . ■
