Mrs E. .L. Barnes, of Elmira Avenue, returned homo from Christchurch yesterday. Mrs C. Marchbanks, of "Wellington, is the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs W. L. Fitzherbert, of Broadway, Palmerston North. The friends of Mrs S. Nicholls, of the Central hire Station; will be pleased to learn that she is progressing favourably after undergoing an operation. Miss Clara McCulloch, formerly of | Palmerston North, has resigned from the staff of the superintending engineer, P. and T. Department, Auckland, and commences next month as a pupil nurso at the Cargen Nurses’ Home, Auckland Hospital. Palmerston North competitors who have been successful in the "Wellington Competitions Society’s festival include : Miss Isa McKenzie, second with Slpts in the operatic dance, 16 years and over (10'entries); Earle Andrews, v.lnc. in popular song, boy or. girl under 16 years, own selection (41 entries). There was the usual large attendance at the West End School, last evening, when the fortnightly dance was held. A professional orchestra provided the music and Mr W. Collins was M.C. Mr Neale played a most enjoyable extra. Prize-winners were: Monte Carlo, Miss S. Dalzieli and Mr M. Smith; Gay Gordons, Miss M. Goodwin and Mr B. Goodwin.
