SUMMER GAMES.
TAKARO CLUB. In ‘a review of the past year tile annual report of the Takaro Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club states that competition among the members of the respective sections was keen and many close games were witnessed. The club is fortunate in having four asphalt tennis courts at its disposal, thus enabling players to practise throughout the year. The grounds ideally situated in Featherston Street West, offer to the residents a form of recreation for young and old. The bowling, croquet and ladies’ tennis section show an increase of 28, whilst the men’s tennis section show a slight decrease. The club ib again in a position to show a record season. Commencing the year with a credit balance of £320 7s 8d and having expended £374 Is lOd, it has now a credit balance amounting to £346 3s lOd in the Post Office and Bank account, all accounts at the close of the year having been met. The splendid work performed during the season by the ladies’ committee, under the leademhip of Mrs P. T. Jamieson, in attending to the afternoon teas is the subject of the club's thanks. The report of the bowling section states, inter alia: The following club competitions were played: Singles, Mr R. Russell; pairs, Messrs H. Titshall and V. Harriman; junior singles, Mr J. Spooner. Mr Spooner won the Abraham Cup and Mr Titshall’s medallion. The club played the Northern Bowling Club for the Takaro-Tc Raki Cup in a series of four matches, Takaro winning the cup for the year. Croquet.—With an increase of eight new members, this section again bad a very successful season. The points prize-winners were Mcsdatncs Ball and Armstrong. The Tanner Cup was won by Mesdames Henderson and Smith. This scclion- has been self-supporting with regard to catering for inter-club matches and has donated £3-odd to the funds of the club. Tennis. —Trophy winners were as follow: Women’s championship singles, Mrs C. Weston; women’s handicap singles,_ Miss M. Hcarsey; men’s championship singles, Mr J. Christie; men’s handicap singles, Mr C. McAffcr; women’s handicap doubles, Mrs E. Carter and Miss J. 1 McPherson: men’s handicap doubles, Mr G. Simon and Mr E. Carter; mixed handicap doubles, Mrs D. Simon and Mr J. Christie; women’s consolation handicap. Miss F. McPherson; moil’s consolation handicap, Mr Marriott; junior handicap singles, Mr P. Norris; Revellers’ Band trophy for most improved player, Miss J. Briggs. Mr J. Christie again succeeded in gaining a place in the Manawatu representative team. Mrs C. Weston ’ and Miss I. Penketh represented the club in the Manawatu v. Hutt Valley niatcb, while Mr P. Norris was also successful in representing the club in the Manawatu junior representative team.
