RURAL HOUSING
OROUA COUNTY LOAN. In reference to the raising of a loan of £IO,OOO for the rural housing schomo in the Oroua County, the chairman (Cr. A. Campbell), at the County Council meeting yesterday, explained that the rate of l-12th of a penny in the £ would be levied only on properties concerning which application for loans had been made. The rate would not be levied over all properties within the county. Crs. Green and McLennan said that the explanation cleared up a lot of misunderstanding, as the ratepayers were of the opinion that their properties wmiild bo subject to the rate whether they applied for a loan or not. The chairman went on to say that a number of jreoplc thought all they had to do was to come along to the council and get a loan of £6OO or a lesser amount to provide a house, hut they were mistaken, because the consent of the mortgagee had first to bo received and then the council had to decide whether the property would stand tho encumbrance. The applications had to be thoroughly examined Ijefore they were sent forward to headquarters. On the motion of the chairman and Cr. Green, the council decided to apply tor tho loan.
