ARBOR DAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Aug. 7. Improvement of the grounds surrounding the local school is making steady progrew and on Tuesday some 30 native (roes in several varieties that luid been raised in the school nursery were planted out by scholars under the supervision of the headmaster (Air W. A. Churchill) in celebration of Atlior Day. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. A meeting- of Ihe Rongolea Horticultural Society was held on Tuesday evening, Airs AL 'Will being in the chair. Apologies for absence were' received from Airs At. Bower, Alessrs 11. As. Rowe and J. ('. Glover. Two members ot the committee, Airs IT. V. Caverhill and Air Al. Lind, are in hospital, and letters of sympathy arc to he sent to them. The secretaryl. was instructed to procure a suitable gift, and forward it with an accompanying letter to Air's 11. Brown (who since her recent marriage has gone to reside in Palmerston North) as a recognition of her valuable work for the society It was decided to hold the bulb show in September and Hon. J, C'obbc, ALP., is to be asked j to open it. The following judges were appointed: Cut blooms, Air A. J. Sliailer; ’ decorative. Airs J. Wcightman; cooking, Airs W. J. Crouchcr. |
