STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Cooperative Building Society (Starr-Bowkett) was held on Wednesday, Mr F. Jackson presiding. Other directors present were Messrs M. A. Eliott, J. B. Gerrand, D. E. Smillie, H. E. Wilson, H. Christmas, and S. W. Ttaplcy. Business was conducted in all groups. In Group 7 two loans of £SOO each were approved on the valuer’s report; in Group 8 authority to place a ballot of £SOO in the Post Office Savings Bank was approved and a loan of £SOO granted on the valuation; in Groups 9 and 10 loans of £IOOO and £7OO were approved. The board gave consideration to various aspects of the society’s work with special reference to war emergency legislation. Matters in connection with the annual meeting were discussed and a number of necessary details attended to.
