DRAINAGE OF LAND.
AIANAIVATU BOARD.
The Alanawatu Drainage Board met vesterdav, there being present Trustees P. G. Mildon (chairman), C. 11. Prouse, R. Tanner, F. J. Russell, J. Collis, H. R. Green and IV. E. Thomas. The over-seer (Mr Al. Wilson) reported that improvements to the tractor plant at the joint outlet drain were still being carried out and good progress was being made. The following drains had been cleaned: —Hansen’s, No. 4 "Line, Lovelock’s, Satlierley’s, Cameron’s Line, Dalton Road, Wood's, MacAuley’s, Jones’s, Thomas’s and Wilson’s. Whisky Creek was being attended to at the present time. All contract work had been completed. Trustee Prouse and the overseer were deputed to inspect the .condition of the drain on Air 0. J. Passey’s property and investigate a request lor lowering it when storm-water is lying about on the property. . The action of Trustee Colhs in arranging better outlet drainage through Mr G. S. Hardy’s property was confirmed. Trustee Russell reported on arrangements made, after an inspection by members of the board, for the provision of a new drain of about five chains to provide an outlet for Air N. Campbell’s property, and this was confirmed.* The clerk (Mr N. I. Nielsen) reported that, following a request from the Social Security Department, it had been agreed to increase the number of •Scheme 13 men working under the board from 15 to 18, and the total commitment under the authority was now £547 10s. It was decided to write to Air A. W. S. Carson, tractor-driver, who had left the board's service, thanking him for the outstanding manner in which he had carried out his duties in the last nine years. A letter was received from settlers asking for the reconstruction of the No. 1 Aorangi drain through Mr F. Hockley's property. The chairman said that he did not think it would be a very big job. It was decided to carry out this work at tbe first opportunity, probably within about a month. In reply to a request from the Deputy Oil Fuel Controller for the further conservation of petrol, it was reported that the board’s economy in this respect had already met with the satisfaction of the authorities. The financial statement set out that the overdraft at the bank -was £257 13s 2d, compared with £llsl 8s lOd at the August meeting last year, and £lß6l 4s 8d in 1938. Outstanding rates amounted to £l2O 6s 6d.
