RUGBY FOOTBALL

SCHOOL MATCH At 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, on the oval at the Showgrounds, Hie Palmerston North Boys’ High School First Fifteen will play their annual match with the Napier Boys’ High School First Fifteen for the Poison Banner. The first of the series took place as far back as ( 1904, when the Palmerston North School was in its infancy, and for the first three years Napier acted tho part of Rugby tutor to the younger school. The year 1907 " saw Palmerston North register their first win, and since that date the greater number of wins have boon credited to them. Tho present position is: Palmerston North 20 wins. Napier 15, and one match drawn. The banner has an interesting history. It was made by Mrs Poison. the wife of the then rector of the Napier Boys’ High School, and the school crests were worked by Mrs Poison and Mrs Vernon, wife of the rector of tho Palmerston North School. Mrs W. F. Fcastor and Mrs J. Murray have since worked the dates. The local fifteen have played good football this year. Although narrowly defeated by To Auto at the Winter Show fixture, they have registered convincing wins against Wanganui Technical High School and Wanganui Collegiate, who boat*, To Ante and drew with New Plymouth. They are due to take part in the quadrangular tournament next week and their form tomorrow will be watched with interest in view of tho importance of the coming contest. The school team is: Full back—B. Donald. Three-quarters.—A. Moffalt, CL Jlardic, B. Poananga. Five-eighths.—A. Ycale (first), 51. Moynilian. . Half-back. —N. Pegden. Forwards. —Front row : E.
