PROBLEM SOLVED.

REMOVAL OF UMBRELLA. AUCKLAND, Aug.. 4. The umbrella which, with accompanying garments, has adorned the topmost pinnacle of the Auckland university College tower for the past few days, has been removed. Three ex-Navy men came to the rescue and swiftly solved a baffling problem. When the university authorities appealed to the Vulcan Steel Construction Company, a subsidiary of the Fletcher Construction Company, which built the university, to assist them in their dilemma, volunteers were immediately forthcoming. One man, indeed, was prepared to tackle the precarious climb single-handed, but bis foreman restrained him. About 2.30 p.m. on Friday two employees of the company, with a third to supervise, arrived on the scene equipped with a ladder, several lengths of stout rope, a tail-block and an iron hook. Significantly enough, all three were ex-Navy men.
