WHEAT CONSERVATION.

POST-WAR STARVATION. OTTAWA, Aug. 1. The Minister of Mines and Resources (Mr T. A. Crerar), in the House of Commons, agreed with the Leader of the Opposition (Mr R. B. Hanson) that, despite the huge wheat surplus, not a single kernel should be destroyed. Mr Crerar prophesied that 250,000,000 Europeans would be short of food within a year. “When the war ends, Europe will be starving,” the Minister said. “Agricultural life will he destroyed, requiring years to rebuild, and Canada may he in a position to render a greatlmmanitarian service to Europe.” The Dominion had a carry-over of 275,000,000 bushels with a crop of 400,000,000 expected.
