PUBLIC SERVICE TESTS.
STATEMENT. WITHDRAWN. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 1. “A perusal of the full report of the Public Service Commissioner’s statement to Parliament reveals that his remarks referred to the general division and not to the professional and clerical division. An earlier statement from this Taranaki section, therefore, misrepresents the Commissioner and it is unreservedly withdrawn,” said Mr J. F. Berry, chairman of the Taranaki section of the Public Service Association, when referring to an earlier statement resenting the Public Service Commissioner’s criticism in bis report of the result of last year’s efficiency tests. “The contention of the Commissioner, however, that the New Zealand Public Service Association does not represent the true feeling of public servants generally in regard to the proposed efficiency tests is, as far as Taranaki is concerned, incorrect.” Mr Berry said that opposition at the present time was even more forceful than when the tests were first proposed last year; and the Taranaki section was united in their opposition, particularly during the war, and it gave full support to the Wellington executive.
