LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of''Mothers, in the Empire Hall yesterday ai- i ternoon. The stage presented a spring- ( like appearance with bowls of wattle and prunus and rhododendrons. Bulbs and wattle decorated the tea tables. Mrs A. C. McPherson presided and expressed pleasure at the good attendance. The secretary (Mrs E. W. Drake) read the report (already published), and Mrs K. Clarke (treasurer) presented the balance-sheet. In moving their adoption of both reports, the president expressed appreciation of the work of Mesdames Drake and Clarke and said that a letter had been received from the hon. auditor (Mrs W. Goddard) commending, the excellent state of the books. As the nominations did not exceed the number of vacancies, there was no election for the committee, the following being the personnel: President, Mrs A. C. McPherson ; vice-presidents, Mesdames F. Wilkinson, D. Dredge, 11. Mclver, J. Barsanti; secretary, Mrs H. Thomas (temporary); assistant secretary, Mrs Pascoe; treasurer, Mrs K. Clarke; committee, Mesdames F. Anderson, E Ashcroft, 0. Christiansen, K. Dempsey, L. Duffin, H. Drake, H. Hoare, M. Koberstein, W. Pascoe, C. Thomas, H. Whittaker, W. Whitehead, E. Silver, W. M. Garner, FStubbs and Miss W. Killick. Mrs D. Dredge took the chair to declare the president, secretary and treasurer elected, and paid a tribute to the work of Mrs McPherson as president during the previous year. She presented posies to Mrs McPherson, and Mesdames Wilkinson and Mclver (last year’s vice-presidents), E. W. Drake (retiring secretary), and K. Clarke (treasurer). Mrs McPherson declared the vicepresidents and committee members elected. She also proposed that the committee be given power to add to their number, if necessary, to distribute the work equitably, and this was carried.
Items were given by the league choir, conducted by Mrs O. Christiansen and accompanied by Mrs C. Grover, and songs by Mrs W. Lyon, accompanied by Mrs Grover. A short sketch, produced bv Mrs Holmes, was presented by Mesdames Humphrey, H. G. Drake and Moxon. They were thanked for their items bv Mrs Stubbs. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames McMillan, Stewart, Ward. G. White, J. Wnss, F Wilkinson, H. Whittaker, A. Wilson, G. Webb, Wilton, E. White, Winter, H. White, Wiggins, Wright, Woskett, Yea. J. Wilkinson. Warren and Wilton. The door hostesses were Mesdames F. Wilkinson and R. J. Mclver and Mesdames F. Anderson, H. Drake and M. Wiggins had arranged the flowers.
