TURKEY’S ADVICE.
“JOIN THE ALLIES.” . LONDON, May 19. Turkish newspapers publish the sharpest warnings to Switzerland and Balkan and Danubian countries, and advocate that they “courageously” join the Allies, and fight for their own freedom. Two of the leading- Turkish newspapers, Cumhurijet and Tan, in voicing Turkish opinion, declare that neutrality, however strict, is tlie' small nation’s surest road to suicide;
They point out that even the fardistant United States contemplates abandoning isolationism in face of the “Nazi barbarian onslaughts.” Cumhurijet,. in a leading article, comments: “Small peoples whose existence is at stake must unite immediately in an offensive and defensive alliance, siding unequivocally with the Allies. Otherwise they will share the fate of Denmark, Norway, Belgium, and Holland.” .... Tan boldly advocates that the Allies should bring pressure on small nations at present free from attack, and compel them to join the Allies, “thus forestalling further lightning drives by Hitler towards world domination.”
