(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, June 12. Present at the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday night were the Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and Crs A. E. Hyde, J. A. Roach, R. E. Downes, H. Aitchison, A. E. Berss and E. Perry. Apologies wore received from Crs W. Ciayton and R. R. Lind. Mr L. G. Lowry, M.P., wrote stating that the request of the council for the Railways Department to install a community light at the entrance to the" Shannon railway station had been approved and the • department was arranging to install a light in the position desired bv the council. The district officer of the Transport Department, in his report for May, advised that the fact that no offences were reported in Shannon during the month may bo taken as a fair indication of the general conduct of the motor traffic. The health inspector reported inspections had been made at the Post Office in connection with the proposed new drainage system and stormwater drains. Two milk, one butter, and two draught beer samples had been taken. The postmaster asked for permission to have the storm water from the Post Office bui'.dimrs led directto the street channelling instead of to the sumps as at present. —Granted, subject to the work being carried out to the satisfaction of the council, and the footpath repaired. The secretary of Yen. Bede’s vestry made application for permission to lay down a concrete path from the church gate to the roadway.—Messrs Park and Bertram notified the council that it has bcci. arranged to form a.now abattoir district which is to include the Shan non borough. The Social Security Department, writing in connection with Scheme No. 13 men, stated that the present generous subsidy cannot be continued beyond June 22, but the department is prepared to offer a subsidy on the basis of £3 15s per man-week for the employment of four registered and eligible married men.—A committee was set up to go into the matter.. Regarding improvements to the outlet of Stansell drain. Crs Lind, Downes and Hyde, were appointed a committee to confer with other interested parties. The Buckley Golf Club' held their annual tournament, when players from Taihape, Orcua Downs and Lcvin vClub participated. .Tip highlight of the tournament was the hr/liant round by Jack Mabcy, of the Buckley Club, who had a card of 69 gross, 3 under par for the course. Birch (Buckley) beat H. Pope (Buckley) : No. 4 flight. Brad’c.v (Taihape) beat E. Morrow (Buckley); No. 5 flight, J. P. Mortland (Taihape) beat Kincaid (Taihape) ; morning medal, J. Mabcy, 69 — 6—63; best gross score, J. Mabcy, 69: Stableford, D. Clark, 39 points; four-ball best ball bogey, F. Perry and C. Young,3 up; teams’ match, C. Stern, H. Stern, V. Pope, F. Picard. Next Saturday the second qualifying round will take place. On Sunday next the Buckley Club wi 1 entertain the Oroua Downs Club.
