WORK AT AWAPUNI
WANGANUI PREPARATIONS. GOOD GALLOP BY SLEEVELESS. (By “Spectator.”) . Several horses with engagements at tli Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting had thur final ; gallops at AwapUni this morning. With a number of horses already &way there , was not a great deal of'fast wprK done: Conditions were good, the course piper being open and in good order, in llags were in the middle of the course. Sleeveless galloped impressively over seven furlongs. She started at a. fast pace and covered the first half-mile m 54scc. She was easing up at the finish and completed the distance in 1:36, the last five furlongs taking 1.10. Sleeveless will piobably race on the second day at anganui. Colonel Bogey and Aurora’s Star were also sent over seven furlongs. 1 hey did the distance in 1.37 1-5. Old Surrey and Francis Drake were companions over a similar distance and their time was slightly slower—l. 37 4-5. - . Squcers and Little Dorrit were S 1 a five-furlong gallop, the -time being l.og. They covered the last half-mile in 56sec. Mrs A. W. McDonald will have Squcers, Old Surrey and Little Dorrit racing at Wanganui. Gold Bridge, Rhodes and Last Acre were companions over five furlongs. Gold Bridge and Rhodes finished on terms, with Last Acre a length or so behind, uhe time was 1.10. . Jumna and Colerica were sprinted over three furlongs, and covered the distance in 41 l-sscc. Jumna is promising well and is expected to bo a good performer next season. . Among others galloped were High l eer and Fauvclte, who were together over six furlongs. Harbour Bar was given a working gallop over seven furlongs and a slow milo task was performed by Selkirk. Quadroon was* also given a gallop. It is expected that he will race at '1 rent ham in Julv, and he should make a good showing. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS.
