ANTI-RED PURGE.
FRENCH ACTION JUSTIFIED. (From Davcntry.) A defence of the measures taken in France against the Communists is contained in a letter addressed to the British Labour Party by the secretary of the French Socialist Party. The letter admits that the measures are severe, but emphasises the magnitude of the danger which the Communists represent in France, and which the measures are designed to meet. The Communist Party, it is stated, has taken up a position with a foreign Government which is an accomplice of a country with which France is at war. Under these conditions the question is absolutely clear. It has to be decided whether a party, under orders and in the pay of a foreign Power, can take part and vote in a. French Assembly where it can be informed of the military and diplomatic secrets of the country. In Russia they would have been shot without explanation or without trial, with a bullet in the head for everyone who tried to defend or excuse them.
