MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Before Mr H. P. La wry, S.M., at* a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, Frederick Rex McKean Webster, labourer, aged 22, and Thomas Daley, labourer, aged 19, were jointly charged that on April 22, at Palmerston North, they stole a lady’s gold expanding bracelet watch, a silver cigarette case, a pencil, and sundry jewellery, of a total value of £l7 2s Gd, the property of R. M. Burrows. Accused were remanded to appear on April 29. A young man, an Air force trainee from Ohalcea, whose name was suppressed, was sentenced to a year’s probation for the theft of 10s, to which be pleaded guilty. DetectiveSergeant Meiklejohn said there bad been complaints of a number of such thefts at Ohakea, and they were difficult to detect. A labourer, aged 29, whose name was suppressed, was charged that, on April 21, at Palmerston North, be stole a milk can, valued at 16s, the property of L. C. Driver. Accused entered a plea of not guilty through his solicitor,. Mr G. E. Rowe. After evidence had been heard the Magistrate said that liquor bad something to do with the offence and he convicted accused and ordered him to come up for sentence within six months' if called upon.
