SHARP CLASHES
OPERATIONS IN NORWAY. NAZI COUNTER-ATTACK. TWO CHIEF THEATRES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 24, 9.55 a.m. LONDON, April 23. The War Office announces: “The operations in Norway are proceeding in co-operation with the Norwegian forces. In the south our troops, in conjunction with the are resisting enemy pressure. Our troops north from Trondheim have been counter-attacked. Sharp engagements ensued.”
(From Davcntry.) Fighting is reported from two centres in Norway—north of Trondheim and also in the vicinity of Oslo. At both centres German and British troops have met and sharp fighting is reported. Sweden reports that the Allies have reached 35 miles north of Trondheim, which means they have pushed south for one hundred miles. It looks very much as though they are developing a pincer movement, for British troops are reported to have also reached a point 30 miles south of 'Trondheim. There is no news from Narvik and the far north.
