ADDINGTON SALE. VALUES AGAIN FIRM. Per Press Association. OJIUISTCHURCU, April 23. Smaller entries again caused a firming in prices at the Addington sale to-day. Thu holding of the sale a day earlier was tho I outcome of Anzac Day falling on 'lhurs- | day. ‘ i The store sheep sale was the best since the ewe fair last season. The entry totalled 6000, as compared with 8000 last week. | An improved teed position was tiie main fuctor in tho recovery, and last week’s advance continued, with a rise of 2s to 3s | for the fmc-woolled sorts. Farmers came freely on the market as a result of the improved feed position. There was little change in the prices for coarse-woolled sheep. Chatham two-tooths brought 30s, and older Chatham ewes 26s 6d. Finc-woolled ewes brought 20s 6d to 24s 3d ; and fouryear halfbreds 12s 3rl to 12s 4d, with failingmouthed sorts at 7s 4d. The best wethers brought about 15s. Nine pens of lambs were entered, these showing- an improvement of 2s to 3s. Forward rape lambs sold at 19s 3d, and medium at 16s 6d. The fat lamb entry, of which the quality was poor, dropped from a total of 1200 to 800. Butchers’ sorts sold up to Is above the schedule rates. Freezing works buyers were active at jchedulc rates. In the fat sheep section ini entry of 5000 was forward, a small proportion being prime wethers. All classes appreciated in price. Prime wethers were better by Is to Is 6d. The scarcity of butchers’ sheep caused a firming of up to 2s a head for the primest sorts. Best-quality lines brought from 28s to 325, with the tops going at 35s 10d. Ordinary wethers made from 225; good ewes from 23s to 265, with prime pens at 29s 7d; arid medium ewes, 18s to 225, with export sorts from 12s 6c! to 15s. Four hundred and thirty cattle were yarded, a larger number than usual. Wellfinished steers wero in freer demand, and goou cattle met with an appreciation of 10s to 15s a head. Where the quality appealed, butchers competed actively. Good beef made 36s lo 38s a 1001 b. Medium to heavy steers made £ll 15s to £ls 15s, .vith rough down to £8 10s; best, heifers, £lO 10s, medium £6 10s to £8 ss, and light £6. Cows made from £5 10s to £l3 2s 6(1.
